Ana Baciu is a multidisciplinary artist who creates experimental, abstract, and conceptual works that explore the intersection of nature, human's inner universe, and technology. She challenges the notion of fixed identities and blurs nationalistic boundaries with her nomadic lifestyle between Romania and Germany.

Born in 1984 in Baia Mare, Romania, Ana grew up in a society marked by communism, scarcity, and corruption. Despite these challenges, her childhood was often filled with joy and wonder, thanks to the women who raised her. Her grandmother kindled her deep connection with nature and the concept of freedom, while her mother showed her the first computers used for Complex Calculus and large-scale printers, which ignited a lifelong interest in technology and its role in her artistic creations.

Ana studied architecture and developed a passion for abstract, conceptual art. Combining her passions for nature and technology, she forged a self-taught artistic practice that juggles digital illustration, mixed media, video collages, 3D object design, and virtual reality art. Her investigation is primarily visual but also encompasses motions, sounds, and immersive experiences. She is inspired by her close experiences with different cultures, as well as the bold colors of Expressionism, the dynamic volumes of Parametricism, the outlandish imagery of Surrealism, and the geometric precision of Op Art.

Her work often incorporates cutting-edge technology such as touch screens, augmented reality, and virtual reality, inviting the viewer to connect with the art on a deeper level. She is also engaged in experimentation and research with AI in her art, using controversial prompts to challenge the status quo and encourage reflection on biases and preconceived notions.

In addition to her work with digital media, Ana is also interested in the performative arts. She has been collaborating on numerous projects with choreographer Lisa Wengler, implementing AI motion capture techniques and Augmented Reality to create art that portrays an eclectic reality, opposing concepts of technological uniformity and rigidity. They have exhibited their project "aelona - a digital body for two" in the Metaverse Avatar exhibition organized by Europe Metaverse Creation Lab 2022, and conduct multidisciplinary workshops at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.

Ana's vision is to create art that engages and challenges audiences, encouraging them to think deeply about the world around them and their own place within it. She seeks to dissolve conventional aesthetic and social boundaries, inviting viewers to explore the depths of their own imagination and emotions. Through her art and research, Ana addresses contemporary issues related to vulnerability, gender, identity, and social justice, echoing the imprints of her childhood and her quest for building imaginary freedom islands.
